Application Guidelines for 2012

The Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts is an independent organisation established in 1861 to promote and encourage Scotland's contemporary art and artists. As well as owning and managing the Kelly Gallery the Institute organises the largest and most prestigious Annual Exhibition of contemporary art in Scotland.
As part of the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts the Kelly Gallery can offer a unique blend of display, promotion and networking.

The Kelly Gallery is a prestigious, inspirational and versatile venue available for hire on an exclusive basis for exhibitions and events.
The gallery is laid out on one floor with a substantial frontage to Douglas Street, the space is suitable for the widest range of exhibitions including painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, installation, applied arts and exhibitions relating to architecture.
The gallery comprises of approximately 60 square metres (645 sq ft) of prime display area and 23.5 linear metres (78 ft) of wall hanging space.
The gallery is fully equipped with furniture, and a quantity of crockery and glasses is provided for functions as well as a fridge for the chilling of food and drinks. Internet access is also provided. Lighting is by way of fully adjustable, overhead tungsten halogen lamps on tracks, additional lighting is provided by ceiling mounted lights.

The Kelly Gallery is at the heart of Glasgow's business and commercial district, the area is home to many art dealers and galleries such as the CCA, Roger Billcliffe Fine Art, Cyril Gerber, Compass Gallery, Lyon and Turnbull, Bonham’s and many others are within a short walking distance.
Bounded by Bath Street, West Regent Street and Blythswood Square, the gallery is within short walking distance from Glasgow’s shopping district ‘The Style Mile’ and Glasgow School of Art.
The Gallery is easily accessible by all forms of public transport. The nearest train station is Charing Cross.

For artists the exhibition hire package includes:
Presentation and sales
- Use of a secure, well-lit city centre exhibition space approximately 624 sq ft in size for exhibition of artworks for the period of hire.
- Curatorial support and assistance with exhibition install and associated administration.
- One private view event with gallery staff providing sales support.
- Experienced gallery staff will provide sales support throughout the run of the exhibition within normal gallery opening hours, this includes use of credit card facilities and the Own Art purchase scheme.
Promotion
- An email invitation sent to all on the RGI’s growing contact list.
- Notification of the exhibition to over 1100 RGI members and associated artists.
- Your exhibition featured on the RGI website.
- Advert placement in The Herald newspaper (Gallery Guide Friday and Saturday)
- Your exhibition promoted through social media.
- Details of your exhibition submitted to relevant listings in press and online.
In addition we can provide support and advice on all aspects of your exhibition including press release writing and distribution, printed invitation design*, framing and presentation.
*Printing and posting costs to be covered by artist.
The gallery also has facilities to accommodate artist’s talks (projector, seating etc.); events can be arranged on request.
Hire of the gallery is £275+VAT per week; the gallery can be hired for a minimum of 2 weeks. Commission on all sales is 35% + VAT.
Proposals for solo or group shows will be considered.
Opening hours during exhibitions: Tuesday - Friday 10.30 - 5, Saturday 10.30 - 1
Application procedure
ALL APPLICATIONS MUST INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
- Full contact details including postal address, email and ‘phone number
- Exhibition proposal
- Your artistic CV / biog / statement
- At least six images of recent work, preferably on a CD, each named and titled
- Any catalogues or other supporting materials
- Details of any on-line resources such as your web site
